MARTIN, Tenn. – Following the cancellation of this weekend’s nonconference series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff earlier today, the University of Tennessee at Martin has picked up a three-game set at Southern Miss for Feb. 23-24.

The Skyhawks will play at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 before battling the Golden Eagles in an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 24. All three games of the series will take place at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Miss.

This marks the first time that UT Martin and Southern Miss will play on the diamond since 1994, as the Skyhawks hold a 2-1 all-time lead in the series.

UT Martin (0-4) will look to turn a corner after a sweep at Troy to begin the season. The Skyhawks are led by freshman backstop Blake Davis who is pacing the club in batting average (.500), hits (five), on base percentage (.643), slugging percentage (.600), doubles (one) and walks (four). Freshman Casey Harford belted his first career homer over the weekend while also tallying a team-high four RBI’s.

The Skyhawk outfield trio of Jordan Stoner, Collin Edwards and Creighton Eldridge have been active on the basepaths as both Stoner and Edwards have two steals apiece while Eldridge has swiped one bag already on the year.

The UT Martin pitching rotation will likely start with senior Dalton Westfall (0-1, 27.00 ERA) in Game 1. Sophomores Winston Cannon (0-0, 3.00 ERA) and Sam Folks (0-1, 11.25 ERA) will start Games 2 and 3, respectively. Cannon looks to build off his season debut as he logged a quality start (six innings, two earned runs) while fanning five batters along the way.

Southern Miss (3-1) was originally slated to play in a tournament at Stephen F. Austin this weekend but the event was cancelled because of rain. The Golden Eagles opened the season with a three-game sweep of No. 12 Mississippi State before falling by a 10-9 margin at South Alabama on Tuesday.

Luke Reynolds paces Southern Miss with a .600 batting average (9-of-15), three homers and seven RBI’s. Nick Sandlin (1-0, 0.00 ERA) paces a starting rotation that has posted a 2.04 ERA with 17 strikeouts and just 14 hits allowed through the first four games of the season.
