UT MARTIN OPENS FINAL ROAD SWING AT MOREHEAD STATE ON THURSDAY NIGHT

The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will hit the road for the final week of the regular season, beginning with a matchup at Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State on Thursday, Feb. 22. Tipoff from Johnson Arena is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. CST.
The Skyhawks (16-12, 12-4 OVC) enter the contest riding a hot streak, winning eight consecutive matchups while moving into a tie for second play in the league standings. During the team’s upswing in search for a top-seed in next week’s OVC Basketball Championship, the Skyhawks have outscored their opponents by an average of 16.6 points per game. In the team’s most recent outing, UT Martin posted a dominating 85-57 victory over Eastern Illinois on Senior Night as five players scored in double figures.
UT Martin boasts four players who are averaging in double figures during conference play. Sophomore Kendall Spray ranks fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game while ranking second nationally with 110 made three-pointers on the season. Junior Emanye Robertson (11.4 ppg, 4.6 aspp, 2.3 spg), Chelsey Perry (11.3 ppg, 6.4 rebounds, 29 blocks) and Ashton Feldhaus (11.0 ppg) also average double-digit scoring outputs during OVC action.
Morehead State (19-10, 10-6 OVC) opens its final home stretch of the season in hopes of finishing with a top-four seed in the upcoming league tournament. The Eagles have dropped two of their last three contests, including an 80-56 setback to No. 24 ranked Belmont their last time out. On the season, MSU boasts a wealth of balance with five players averaging in double figures led by Miranda Crockett with 15.0 points per game. Eriel McKee (13.3 ppg), Tierra McGowan (12.7 ppg), Darianne Seward (12.4 pppg) and Erin Blaine (10.5 ppg) round out the balanced effort.
Thursday’s game marks the 49th meeting between the two programs in series history with Morehead State holding a narrow 26-22 advantage. Despite winning seven of the last nine matchups against the Eagles, UT Martin has dropped back-to-back contests to Morehead State – including an 81-76 overtime loss back on Jan. 13th.
