MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad competed at the NCAA Qualifier held on the campus at Murray State University this past weekend.
Several Skyhawks set new personal bests while the mixed team tied a program-high 4,626 aggregate.
Brigitte Curcio fired a career-high 578 in smallbore while Jacob Osborne and Brianna Sawyers shot scores of 556 and 568, respectively in the discipline. Alex Tamboli also set a personal-high in air rifle with a mark of 577.
Joe Martin led the way for the mixed team in smallbore as he fired a score of 583. Kaitlin Korinek (579), Curcio (578) and Tamboli (558) also shot in the smallbore relays. Korinek’s score of 588 paced the mixed team in air rifle while Martin (585), Curcio (578) and Tamboli (577) all rounded out the squad.
“We had a successful weekend at the NCAA Qualifier,” head coach MJ Vowell said. “Our team’s good outing is evident in the team score, which tied our all-time high. That was one of our goals for the year, to break or tie the mixed team aggregate and we did that. Several student-athletes had career highs which is always great to see.”
The NCAA is currently compiling results from around the country and will announce its 2018 NCAA Rifle Championship team and individual participants later this week. This year’s championship will be hosted by The Citadel in Charleston, SC on March 9-10.
