The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to polish off a strong home slate when taking on Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 17. Tipoff from the Elam Center is scheduled for 4 p.m. with Senior Day festivities to occur just prior to tip.
The Skyhawks (15-12, 11-4 OVC) are winners of seven straight contests - including four at home - looking to secure a top-two seed in the upcoming OVC Basketball Championship to be held in Evansville, Ind. on Wednesday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 3. Stringing together a bundle of victories down the stretch, UT Martin sits just one game out of the second place in the league standings.
In the team's most recent contest, the Skyhawks defeated currently projected No. 2 seed SIUE 72-64 at home in front of a nationally televised audience on ESPNU. Included in the game was the play of Kendall Spray who scored a game-high 26 points while setting the program's single-season three-point record with 107 to date. Spray was joined in double figures by Emanye Robertson (11 points) and Chelsey Perry (10 points).
Highlighting Saturday's festivities will be the recognition of senior forwards Ashton Feldhaus and Janekia Mason. Feldhaus's days at UT Martin date back to the 2014-15 season, averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 points per contest over the past two seasons while tallying 27 games in double figures throughout her Skyhawk career. Mason has proved to be a dynamic low-post threat, averaging 9.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while tallying 28 games in double figures and three double-doubles in her two seasons in a Skyhawk uniform.
Eastern Illinois (2-24, 1-14 OVC) is looking to snap a lengthy nine-game losing streak which dates back to early January. The Panthers are led by Matt Bollant who is in his first year as head coach, boasting a lineup which features zero players in double figures. EIU looks for a repeat performance of the team's previous matchup against the Skyhawks in which Taylor Steele tallied a game-high 19 points while grabbing six rebounds and three steals.
Saturday's matchup marks the 51st meeting between the two programs in series history with UT Martin holding a 32-18 advantage. The Skyhawks have won 11 of the last 12 meetings against the Panthers dating back to the 2012-13 season, including a commanding 72-44 victory in Charleston earlier this season.
