MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball squad looks to extend its winning streak over SIUE to six games when the two teams clash in an Ohio Valley Conference showdown at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff on Thursday, Feb. 15 will take place at 7 p.m., following the conclusion of the women’s basketball game as part of a home doubleheader.
The Skyhawks have not lost to the Cougars since Feb. 1, 2015, winning their three home games by a margin of 10.0 points per contest in that span.
UT Martin (9-18, 4-10 OVC) will go for a season sweep over SIUE after pulling out a 70-69 win in Edwardsville on Jan. 20. Delfincko Bogan was responsible for game-highs of 21 points and five steals while the frontcourt trio of Dominique Williams (14 points, 11 rebounds), Terrence Parker (14 points on 6-of-8 shooting) and Fatodd Lewis (go-ahead jumper with 11 seconds to go) helped muscle the Skyhawks to the victory.
On Monday, Bogan solidified his recent strong play with an adidas OVC Newcomer of the Week honor. The junior combo guard became the fourth different UT Martin player to nab an OVC weekly accolade this season, which is just one shy of the program’s single-season record of five in 2014-15.
This game could loom large in the postseason picture as the Skyhawks and SIUE are currently tied for the eighth and final spot in the upcoming OVC Tournament. Five teams have already officially clinched a berth in the OVC Tournament with four regular season games remaining on the schedule.
The Cougars (8-17, 4-10 OVC) are coming off a 75-66 home setback to league-leading Murray State on Saturday. In that game, SIUE trailed by just two points (33-31) at the halftime break but were hampered by 17 turnovers.
Jalen Henry, who generated a team-best 21 points against UT Martin earlier this season, had 18 points against the Racers while David McFarland pitched in 13 points for the Cougars, who knocked down 95.2 percent (20-for-21) of their free throw tries in the contest.
The game will be streamed live, free of charge, on the OVC Digital Network. A radio call of the game will be available on Star 95.1 FM or on WUTM 90.3 FM. Those three links - as well as a link for live stats - are located at the top of the webpage.
