SKYHAWK EQUESTRIAN RANKED NINTH IN FIRST NCEA TEAM RANKINGS OF SPRING SEMESTER
January 30, 2018
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian squad is ranked No. 9 in the opening National Collegiate Equestrian Association spring team rankings presented by Farnam.
UT Martin has now appeared in the NCEA top-10 rankings in eight consecutive weeks after breaking into the poll on Oct. 10. The Skyhawks concluded the fall semester ranked No. 8 on Nov. 21.
Georgia was ranked No. 1 for the seventh straight poll and was followed by No. 2 SMU, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 Auburn, No. 6 Fresno State, No. 7 TCU, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 UT Martin and No. 10 South Dakota State.
The Skyhawks have posted a 2-3 record so far in 2017-18 with all five competitions coming against nationally ranked opponents. Two of UT Martin’s setbacks were by a single point – including 8-7 losses to current No. 2 SMU and current No. 7 TCU.
Balanced scoring has been a huge part of the Skyhawk success this season, as 16 riders have combined to record points in the four events (equitation on the flat, equitation over fences, horsemanship, reining). That includes six different individuals who have accumulated eight MOP’s.
UT Martin wrapped up its fall schedule on Nov. 10 and will return to action on Feb. 16 when it hosts No. 7 TCU.
