MARTIN, Tenn. –
For the second straight week, the University of Tennessee at Martin is slotted at No. 8 in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll presented by Farnam, which was released this afternoon.

Today’s top-10 rankings are the last of the 2017 fall semester. The Skyhawks rose to No. 8 in the national poll last week and have found themselves in the top-10 ranking in each of the last seven weeks.

Georgia claimed the top spot in today’s poll, followed by No. 2 SMU, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 5 Auburn, No. 6 Fresno State and No. 7 Baylor. The rankings were rounded out by No. 9 TCU and No. 10 South Dakota State.

UT Martin rounded out its fall schedule with a runner-up finish in the Masterson Farms Invitational on Nov. 9-10, defeating then-No. 5 Fresno State (11-5) before barely falling to then-No. 4 SMU (8-7). The Skyhawks have generated a 2-3 record this season – including a pair of one-point setbacks – as all five opponents have been nationally ranked.

Four different Skyhawks have chalked up team points in equitation on the flat this season, led by Randi LaChance and Monika Zoromski’s three points apiece. LaChance and Abbie Hopkins have also secured MOP accolades in the event.

In equitation over fences, UT Martin has found four different scorers so far in 2017-18. Hopkins accounts for a team-best four points while the trio of Hopkins (twice), LaChance and Zoromski also have captured MOP honors.

Bobbie Piddock and Tess Baumann share the team lead with three team points in horsemanship. Overall, four separate Skyhawks have provided team points while Baumann is responsible for both of UT Martin’s MOP’s in the event.

Four different Skyhawks have also dialed up team points in reining. Madeline Williams has earned a team-high four points in five competitions this season. Williams and Noel Meadows each have garnered MOP’s for UT Martin so far in 2017-18.

The Skyhawks will carry their No. 8 ranking into the spring campaign, which officially begins with a home competition against current No. 9 TCU on Friday, Feb. 16.
