Jemima Idemudia made history this evening as she became just the fourth University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball player to garner All-Ohio Valley Conference first team honors in back-to-back seasons.

A senior out of Glendale, Ariz., Idemudia was elected to the 14-member All-OVC team tonight at the awards banquet on the eve of the OVC Tournament. She joins program stalwarts Rachel Ahlers (2000-02), Lindsey Vicknair (2000-02) and Kasey Elswick (2010-12) on the elite list of multi-All-OVC first team honorees in school history.

Idemudia snared All-OVC first team accolades as a junior in 2016 and followed that up with an even better senior campaign in 2017. She led the league in blocks (1.26 per set) – becoming the first Skyhawk since Kathryn Sprague (1.38 per set in 2005) to rank atop the conference in that category. She also ranked fifth in the OVC in points (3.86 per set), eighth in kills (3.07 per set) and eighth in hitting percentage (.288).

The 6-2 middle blocker upped her game in conference play, ranking first in the league in blocks (1.46 per set), fourth in points (4.23 per set), seventh in kills (3.29 per set) and seventh in hitting percentage (.296) against OVC foes.

Idemudia put together one of the best matches in program history on Sept. 29 in a four-set win over Murray State. She swatted away a program record 16 blocks, shattering the previous record of 15 by Traci Tisch against Oral Roberts on Oct. 18, 1993. Idemudia also added 12 kills on a .381 attack percentage in the victory over the Racers, which was one of 20 matches where she slammed down double-digit kills in 2017.

Idemudia’s 1.26 blocks per set average ranks as the sixth-best single season mark in school history. Her 139 blocks come in at No. 7 in the program’s single season record book.

For her career, Idemudia ranks third in all-time blocks per set (1.20) and fifth in all-time kills per set (2.95). She joins Ahlers (3.18 kills per set, 1.23 per set from 1999-2002) as the only players in UT Martin volleyball history to rank in the top-five in both career categories.
