Skyhawk Softball | Tanner Wessling - Student Assistant

Tanner Wessling

Tanner Wessling is in his first season as a student assistant on the Skyhawk softball coaching staff.

A Kent, Wash. native, Wessling joins the UT Martin softball program after a two-year career as a student-athlete for the Skyhawk baseball team. The 6-2 outfielder ranks 10th all-time in program history in triples (five) while his 2017 campaign ranks in the top-10 in school history in triples (four), hits (76) and at-bats (217).

Last season, Wessling paced UT Martin with a .350 batting average and 39 RBI’s while helping the Skyhawks to 25 overall victories (the most in the program’s Division-I history). UT Martin also won a school-record 12 Ohio Valley Conference games and qualified for the OVC Tournament for just the third time in school history.

Wessling’s junior season was highlighted by an adidas OVC Player of the Week honor on Feb. 22, 2016. He became just the ninth player in program history to win the award since the Skyhawks joined the OVC in 1993.

Wessling attended Edmonds Community College (2013-15) in Lynnwood, Wash. and Kentwood High School (2009-13) before transferring to UT Martin. He is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in management.
