Skyhawk Rodeo | Ben Walker - Graduate Assistant
Ben Walker enters his second season on the UT Martin rodeo coaching staff in 2016-17.
In his first season as a coach (2014-15), Walker helped the UT Martin men's team to an eighth place national finish at the College National Finals Rodeo. The men's team finished in the top-four in all 10 rodeos (including four victories) while the women's squad placed in the top-five in seven of its eight rodeos, notching two victories in the process.
A native of Sparta, Tenn., Walker competed on the UT Martin rodeo team for five years (2010-14, 15-16) under head coach John Luthi, competing mostly in calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling. He competed in the CNFR in four separate years, qualifying in calf roping as a freshman in 2011, competing in team roping as a sophomore in 2012 while competing in both calf roping and team roping events as a junior in 2013. Last year, he finished 10th in the nation in tie down roping (31.3 average) while also taking part in the team roping competition. He also teamed with Clark Adcock to finish fifth in the nation in team roping in 2012.
Walker was also a key member of UT Martin's 2014 squad who captured the men's team national championship. UT Martin became the first team located to the east of the Mississippi River to bring home first place honors.
