Skyhawk Men's Basketball | Ali Parvaz - Director of Basketball Operations
Ali Parvaz is in his first season as director of basketball operations at UT Martin.
Parvaz joins the Skyhawks after serving as assistant director of the prestigious Earl Watson Elite AAU program, which is based in Los Angeles and was co-founded by current Phoenix Suns head coach and 13-year NBA veteran Earl Watson. Parvaz coached the 16U and 17U high level travel teams and assisted with planning and running basketball scouting and recruiting camps from February 2014 through August 2016.
Competing in the Under Armour Association, Earl Watson Elite won national titles at the 11U, 12U, 13U, 15U and 17U levels at the 2016 Fab 48 championship event held in Las Vegas, Nev. The 16U and 17U teams were ranked No. 1 nationally in the West region and were in the top-15 out of nearly 300 teams in the national standings.
In addition to his assistant director duties, Parvaz was head coach of the Earl Watson Elite 15U team that won the open division at the Under Armour Finals and finished the summer of 2016 ranked No. 12 in the nation. He also served as an assistant coach of the 17U team that won the Fab 48 and was ranked in the national top-10.
All in all, Parvaz coached more than 20 Division-I players in this three-year tenure at Earl Watson Elite.
Prior to his stint at Earl Watson Elite, Parvaz was head coach of the Leuzinger High School boy's basketball program in Lawndale, Calif. He posted a 89-56 overall record from 2010-15, including a remarkable two-year run where the Olympians posted a 47-12 mark from 2011-13.
Parvaz helped guide LHS to a 24-6 record, a Bay League championship and a deep semifinals run in the CIF Southern Section Division 3-A Tournament in 2013. He also coached the Olympians to a Pioneer League title and a Division 3-A quarterfinals appearance in 2015. For his efforts, he was named Bay League Coach of the Year in 2012 and Pioneer League Coach of the Year in 2015.
At Leuzinger, Parvaz coached Eric Childress - who earned a Division-I scholarship to UC Santa Barbara. Childress earned All-Big West Conference honorable mention accolades as a junior in 2015-16.
Parvaz graduated from Chapman University with a degree in communication and media studies in 2003. He obtained his secondary teaching credential from California State University-Los Angeles in 2008.
