Skyhawk Athletic Training | Cory Scates - Assistant Athletic Trainer
Cory Scates joined the UT Martin athletic training staff in September 2014. He will work primarily with the Skyhawk women's basketball and baseball programs.
Scates comes to UT Martin from Campbell Clinic Orthopedics in Germantown, Tenn. He served as the sports medicine manager for two years, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of the outreach and physician extender programs. That came after spending a decade as the sports medicine outreach coordinator, where he delivered quality clinical treatment to all patients affiliated with the company. He also spent over four years as a staff athletic trainer at the clinic.
Scates has also been a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard since December 1989. He has twice served deployments overseas to support the War on Terror (2005-06 in Afghanistan, 2009-10 in Iraq). He was commissioned as an Officer in June 1994 and now serves as the 194th EN BDE Administrative Officer. He was board select for Lieutenant Colonel in September 2013.
Scates graduated from UT Martin in December 1995 with a bachelor of science in education with a concentration in fitness management and minor in sports medicine.
Scates resides in Union City and is married to Melissa Sinclair Scates. He is the father of one daughter (Catherine) and stepfather of three children (Savannah, Jamison and MollyBeth Blackwell).
