Skyhawk Softball | Kayla Joyce - Graduate Assistant

Kayla Joyce

Kayla Joyce enters her first season as a graduate assistant coach for the Skyhawks after concluding a four-year career at Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky. Joyce will primarily work with the outfielders and hitters.

Along with her duties in the UT Martin softball program, Joyce is a member of the Phillippine national softball team which will compete in the World Cup of Softball during the summer of 2017, as well as compete in various national qualifying tournaments in hopes of qualifying for the 2020 Olympics.

While at Eastern Kentucky, Joyce posted a .308 career batting average in 203 career games where she tallied 197 starts. After starting in 50 of the team’s 55 games as a freshman, she started in all but one game her final three years in a Colonel uniform. A .404 career slugger, Joyce tallied 194 career hits, 36 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 71 RBIs while swiping 51 bases.

Joyce posted her best offensive season during her senior campaign where she ranked second in the OVC with a .390 batting average while tallying 12 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 23 RBIs while tallying 28 stolen bases. Her strong season earned her All-OVC second team honors after serving as the team’s leadoff hitter. She tallied 22 multi-hit performances – including an impressive two-game stretch against Tennessee Tech which saw the lefty post a perfect 9-for-9 performance with three RBIs. The speedster also tallied five stolen bases during a three-game series against Belmont – including a career-high three stolen bases on Apr. 16, 2016.

Prior to her time as a Colonel, Joyce prepped at Kennedy High School where she was a three-time all-league honoree – including first team accolades as a senior. She was runner-up for the Empire League MVP award in 2012 while being named team MVP as a senior. She batted above .400 as a junior and senior while swiping 41 total stolen bases in her final two years.

Joyce is the daughter of Todd and Treasure Joyce of La Palma, Calif. and is the oldest of six siblings. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and homeland security. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in business administration from UT Martin.
