Nelson R. Davis has served as an assistant athletic trainer and rodeo coach for The University of Tennessee at Martin since the 2007-2008 season, but he is no stranger to the Skyhawk rodeo program.
Just this year Davis was inducted into the UT Martin Rodeo Hall of Fame for his many years of commitment and service to the UT Martin Rodeo Booster Club.
Davis was also named an honorary rodeo team member in 1997, and presented with an honorary team captain buckle award in 1998. Davis has been a member of the Rodeo Booster Club since 1994. He served as the organization's president from 1998-2003 and its vice president from 2004-2007.
Prior to coming on staff with UT Martin, Davis worked for the Vanderbilt Sports Medicine Center in Martin. He has held a variety of positions within the center since he first began working there in 1996 as a volunteer/student athletic trainer. For the last five years Davis worked as the center's assistant manager.
In 1998 Davis, earned his athletic trainer license from the state of Tennessee. That same year he also became a certified athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification.
Davis graduated cum laude from UT Martin in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health, and a minor in sports medicine. Along with his induction into the UT Martin Rodeo Hall of Fame, Davis was honored this year with a service award from the Ozark Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Davis has worked as the region's medical director since 2002.
